Paging Dr. Adonis

I went to see my OB/Gyn on Monday. First off, let me just say, good God almighty, that man is FINE. He could eat crackers in my bed any day. That's not the only reason I see him, of course, but if I'm going to have somebody down there, he might as well be good looking. Aside from that, he is the best OB in Austin. My Mom has been a labor & delivery nurse for longer than I've been alive, and if she says he's the best, I believe it. She would know, she works with him every day. She uses him, my older sister goes to him, he delivered both of my nephews. He was at my mother's wedding reception the other day. So I definitely trust him and like him. I never feel rushed through an appointment. When he walked into the room, the first thing he asked was not about my nether regions. Instead, he asked how my sisters were, and how my nephews were, and asked after them all by name. If anybody wants his name, let me know, and I'll send it your way. He is so awesome. And did I mention he was gorgeous? Even Brad agrees.

So anyway, he did the annual pap smear / exam that really had been more like a year and a half since the last one. Perfect technique, as always. I know that's too much info, but that kind of thing matters. I hear lots of women complain about how getting a pap done hurts, and I have had other doctors not be so gentle, but with Dr. Adonis, you hardly feel a thing. So, it was quick and painless. He wrote me prescriptions for a couple of things I was out of refills on, and we talked about the babymaking endeavor. I did two cycles of unmonitored Provera/Clomid/Metformin after the last pap, and didn't have any luck then. He agreed that it is time to start the process at a real fertility clinic. He said he would write a referral for me, and also dictate a letter to the doctors at the Texas Fertility Center explaining my background and what we have already tried.

Tomorrow I'm going to call my insurance company to find out if I actually need a referral to go to TFC. My insurance should cover diagnostic testing, and some basic medication. Then I will call TFC to set up an appointment. Since I will be off of work this summer, it seems like the ideal time to be doing all of this. I'm ready to get this show on the road. If I can just get myself knocked up, then I can go back to see my OB. Did I mention he is FINE?

Personal Service

For the past few months, there has been a radio ad playing that is an advertisement for car insurance with "personal service." In this commercial, someone is trying to sell the insurance to a guy based on this personal service, and the guy responds with something like, "Well, I don't really like service, and especially not *personal* service." It is supposed to be funny, and on the surface it is, because everybody wants personal service, right?

Well, today I figured out that I really don't like personal service all that much. I had been looking for a specific kind of paint at the local big-box home improvement store, and I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I went to two different paint stores. At both, it felt like they were trying to sell me a new car. Most of the things they had out on display were just accessories and specialty items. For regular paint, you pick a color, tell the salesman what finish and use you want, and they sell it to you without you even seeing a can of paint. Now, I understand that most of these stores are designed for the average joe-blow consumer who doesn't know his asshole from Jesus, but that's not me. Possibly because I have a higher IQ than a radish, or maybe because I am the queen of indecision, I actually want to evaluate all of my options, without some car salesman standing over my shoulder. I don't have a problem with somebody greeting me when I enter the store, and asking me if they can help me, but when I say I'm just looking around, I want them to go away until I request their help. If I want to compare labels for an hour, then I will. Because I am a very tactile person, I like for stores to have everything out on display, so I can see and touch all of my choices.

It's the same at shoe stores where they have one of each type of shoe displayed, and the salesperson will bring you the correct size. I don't really like having to wait for somebody else to get things for me, and I don't like people to be waiting on me to make a decision. Maybe I grew up middle-class enough to not really shop at stores where you get personal service, and so I can't get used to it. Who knows... All I do know is that I'll stick with the big-box stores and their crappy service. After all, who really wants personal service, anyway?

Friday Funnel-cake Fatigue

Today I feel like absolute crap. I had that funnel cake last night, and while it really was very good, it was also drenched in oil. I drained it on a paper towel after cooking it, but it was still greasy. Needless to say, my stomach is not used to fried food. Even when I'm not on a diet, I hardly ever eat anything fried. About the only fried things I eat are the occasional chicken tender or egg roll. So I was up half the night with terrible stomach cramps and the runs. I should have known better. The same thing happened the other day when I had a Fish N More basket from Long John Silvers. So all day today I have felt completely drained. Thank God it's Friday. When Brad got home from work, he was actually inclined to be productive, even though his gout is acting up. All I wanted to do was crash. Instead, we have compromised, and have been sitting around watching downloaded episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Yes, we are sci-fi junkies. Oh, well. Maybe we will get some work done tomorrow.

Coronary In A Can

I'm going to kill my little sister. We went to Garden Ridge Pottery last weekend, and as we were going through the check out line with our cart full of goodies, I hear Erin squeal in delight. I turn to see what the fuss is about, and she is holding up a kit labeled "Carnival Funnel Cakes." It has two cans of powdered funnel cake mix and a funky looking pitcher with a spout. She says, "Stacy, you have to get this for me!" It looks something like this, minus a can:
Being the sensible one, I refuse to pay what they were asking for that crap (now I don't remember the exact figure). But, of course, Erin keeps begging. So I compromise, and agree to buy her one can of the original flavor that they have as a refill, sans pitcher. After all, what idiot can't figure out how to pour batter from a pyrex measuring cup? We then proceed to checkout, and then on to home. Later that evening, Erin and her hubby depart to go back to Huntsville. The next day, I realize that Erin left something behind, aside from the usual dirty dishes and odd sock. She left this:

So I put it in my kitchen cabinet to save for her. That is, until this evening when I got the munchies. So much for my diet. Now my kitchen counter looks like this:

Whoever came up with this idea needs to be shot! I can feel my arteries clogging, just thinking about it. It really was pretty darn good, though.

Rainy Day Sock No. 1

Well, I finished my first sock ever. It fits perfectly. I'm shocked. It looked like it would be too small, and I didn't quite make gauge, but the lace is really stretchy. And I have big ankles (but not cankles, thank God!), even. It was really pretty darn easy. The only difficult part was the picot edge hem, but it really makes the sock complete. The lace pattern was simple and easy to memorize. It took way longer than expected, but I did get married during the time it was on the needles. Hopefully the second sock will go faster, but I know it probably won't, mostly because the quilting bug has bitten me for now. I will work on it when I take the kids to choir class though. For those who don't know, I work in a special education classroom at the public high school here. The group I work with are the medically fragile and severely disabled children. One of the classes that I take the kids to is choir, where I am able to knit a little bit while the kids listen to the choir. It is the most enjoyable part of the day, as the regular ed. students are all good kids, and the choir director is great. He is a wonderful, funny man, who does his best to include our kids in the lessons. Anyway, here is a pic of the sock.

This is Only a Test

I made my first quilt block ever. It turned out okay. It is just a test block from scrap material, so I don't waste the good material. But it looks alright. It only took me one day to make it, which for me, is not too bad.

A Change in Direction

So this blog was originally supposed to be mostly for my various craft pursuits, but that obviously hasn't worked too well. Since life seems to have taken a slightly different direction, I will be writing about that as well. I am still doing all of my crafts, but I am also getting started with fertility treatments, and slowing down on school. Lately I have felt inclined to write down all of my various rants and raves, so expect to see those as well. Gotta go to work, so that's all for now.
